The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture is strongly committed to the flourishing of Doctoral and Postdoctoral studies. The steps below guide you through the process of becoming a Postdoctoral Fellow/Scholar/Researcher in the School.
1. Confirm that you are eligible.
If you do not meet the requirements for postdoctoral status, you may be eligible to attend McGill as a postdoctoral research trainee or category of Academic Personnel.
2. Read carefully the definitions and regulations around Postdoctoral status. If you wish to join McGill University from outside Canada please consult the instructions on International Postdoctoral Fellows.
3. Once you have confirmed eligibility and familiarized yourself with the different types of postdoctoral registration, the next step is to identify a supervisor within the School of Architecture.
a) Some supervisors issue targeted calls for postdoctoral fellows, which you can view on the Postdoc Opportunities section of the following page. These positions are funded by the supervisor’s research grants.
b) If these opportunities do not match your area of expertise, you can review supervisors currently accepting postdoctoral fellows. If you identify a prospective supervisor, you can contact them directly with your research proposal. These are positions funded by external or competitive awards that you would be required to apply for. Please be aware of
deadlines, which are often in early fall.
Prospective fellows who have secured postdoctoral funding through an international award are also welcome to contact prospective supervisors and will be given full consideration.
* Students in both 3.a. and 3.b. may be nominated for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. Please indicate your interest to be nominated to your supervisor.
