2006 Massey Lecture: The Ethical Imagination

Published: 12 October 2006

On October 11, Professor Margaret Somerville gave the first installment of her 2006 Massey Lecture, on the theme "The Ethical Imagination: Journeys of the Human Spirit," at the Mount Royal Centre.

This series of five public lectures will be an exploration of how science and technology confront us with some of the most challenging and unprecedented ethical questions in the world today. These issues encompass what it means to be human, how we relate to others and our world, and how we find meaning in life. Professor Somerville will then go on to deliver her lectures across Canada (St. John's, Oct. 14; Vancouver, Oct. 17; Calgary, Oct. 19; Toronto, Oct. 27). The lectures will then be broadcast on CBC's radio program Ideas, November 6-10, 2006.

Margaret Somerville is the founding director of the Centre for Medicine, Ethics and Law at McGill University, where she holds the Samuel Gale Chair in the Faculty of Law and is a professor in the Faculty of Medicine.

Tickets: $15 adults, $10 seniors and students, through the (514-790-1245).
