Conducting Grad Shalom Bard named Resident Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra
Schulich School of Music Alumni Shalom Bard (Mmus distinction 2010) named the new Resident Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the New Music Director of the Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra. ÌýHe won the final auditions for these important positions in May, 2012.
Mr. Bard will take up these roles in September 2012, having spent the past season in Halifax as resident conductor with Symphony Nova Scotia. His schedule with the Toronto Symphony includes, among other performances, his debut concert with the TSO of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with Maxim Vengerov later this fall. For Torontonian Shalom Bard, these positions are a true homecoming.
While at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, Shalom Bard was a conducting student of McGill Symphony Orchestra Conductor Maestro Alexis Hauser. ÌýDuring his three years at the school, he distinguished himself in his conducting of Debussy's L'Après-midi d'un faune and Dvorak's ÌýSymphony of the New World, as well as his excellent concerts with the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble.
