Major renovations coming to the McIntyre Building

Published: 25 February 2010

Major renovations are planned for portions of the McIntyre Building to address deferred maintenance and upgrade many laboratories to modern research and teaching standards.

Mechanical systems, including exhaust and ventilation, will be upgraded. The work will bring the system up to modern Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) standards and improve energy efficiency.

Renovation will affect all floors from the 7th to the 13th (inclusive). Because many of the systems are situated under the floor, work will affect neighbouring floors that are not being renovated.

Demolition will begin March 3 on the 8th, 9th and portions of the 10th floor.

During the work, you can expect noise and vibrations in the building. A garbage chute on the south west facade of the building will be used for the debris.

Special funding targeted to address infrastructure needs are making these projects possible. The work has to proceed at an exceptionally rapid pace, due to tight deadlines required by the funding agencies.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
