McGill throws open its doors
Annual Open House set for January 28
McGill University will welcome prospective students at its annual Open House on Sunday, January 28. In addition to student panels, faculty information sessions and campus tours, this year's Open House will feature a range of exhibitions and activities for students and their families.
Visitors will be able to view archaeological excavation collections from the Department of Anthropology (Peterson Hall, 3460 McTavish St.) and exotic rock displays from the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (Frank Dawson Adams Building, 3450 University St.). The Redpath Museum (859 Sherbrooke St. West) will offer three separate guided tours – Stones, Bones and Tombs – of its geology, archaeology and ethnology collections.
Several student projects will be on display, including the Mini Baja, a cross between a commercial go-kart and an all-terrain vehicle; the Formula SAE Car, a small race car built for team competitions; and the electric snowmobile, an environmentally friendly battery-operated prototype snow vehicle. These projects and the student teams behind them will be at the McConnell Engineering Building (3480 University St).

In addition to these activities, professors and scholars from the University's 21 faculties and professional schools will be available to answer questions. As well, a free shuttle bus service to and from Open House has been set up to serve areas beyond Greater Montreal, from Ste. Foy to Thetford Mines.
