Sam Rapoport, KPE Faculty of Education alumna, was recently interviewed by The Toronto Star for her work in the NFL and how she is revolutionizing America’s game.

Rapoport’s successes come in a time of wider progress, of pushing back preconceptions. She has football in her blood, and is working to put more women on a path to the NFL.

KPE Ph.D. student, Zhiyang (George) Shi, receives the 2020-21 Clifford C.F. Wong Fellowship. This fellowship is valued at $5000 for full-time degree students on the basis of academic merit with preference given to students in specific academic areas.

From McGill Office of Sustainability:

The Green Labs Expansion is a $50,000 envelope of SPF funding to assist labs on McGill campuses to adopt sustainable best practices learned from previous Sustainability Projects Fund projects. Approved funding will be available to teams for one year to assist them in creating a proof of concept to secure long-term funding for these practices.

Congratulations to Kinesiology and Physical Education graduate student, Louis-Philip Guindon for receiving theJean Béliveau Athletic Award!

His research title is: "Examining Breathing Patterns during Common on-ice Movement Patterns in Male Hockey Goaltenders".

Louis-Philip Guindon is completing his MSc in Exercise Physiology and plays goaltender for McGill University Men’s Ice Hockey Team.

At the start of 2020, a new funding opportunity was developed by the Dean’s Office to recruit high-caliber PhD students. Each Department was granted a multi-year fellowship package, each totaling $55,000, to be awarded to incoming doctoral students.

McGill’s Sports Science Institute (SSI) at the Faculty of Education awarded the Fall 2020 Sports Science Project Grants to Dr. Dilson Rassier for his project “From Gene to Sports Performance: The Genetic Basis of Muscle Mechanical Properties” and to Dr. Tyler Churchward-Venne for his project “The Three R's of Post-Exercise Recovery Nutrition: Do Exogenous Ketones REBUILD Muscle?”.

They may not know it yet, but McGill’s student teachers are getting a big boost from a kindred spirit.

The late Mary Marsh, DipEd’42, a Grade 1teacher at Rosedale School in Montreal for most of her career, has left more than $4.8 million in her will to support students in the Faculty of Education through a suite ofawards– an investment that couldn’t have come at a better time for a profession deeply marked by the pandemic.

A new partnership between McGill’s Faculty of Education and Trafalgar School for Girls – known as the CoLab – aims to advance collaborative research that will address the evolving needs of both educators and students. Unlike traditional laboratory schools at Oxford, Columbia, UCLA and the University of Chicago, which operate as an adjunct to a university, this new venture will be a true partnership, the first of its kind in Canada.

Over 20 people tuned in on November 12 for MEDtalks 2020: Aging in Today’s World, a lecture series featuring Dr. Celena Scheede-Bergdahl, KPE, and Gabrielle Belloir, U2 Kinesiology and co-vice president Informational Outreach at MEDLIFE McGill.

The event was hosted by MEDLIFE McGill, an annual event intended to provide the McGill community with an opportunity to learn about current medical issues on both a local and global scale.

For fourth-year B.Ed. students approaching the end of their programs, knowing what path to take after graduation can be challenging. Whereas many B.Ed. grads are eager to pursue careers in teaching, training, pedagogy, youth programming, or otheremployment sectors, others may not feel ready to join the job market just yet. Some students may want to broaden their knowledge and skillsets, become more specialized, or expand their career opportunities.
