The McGill Kinesiology & Physical Education Department congratulates Dr. Dennis Jensen for winning the聽Heather Reisman and Gerald Schwartz Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Professor Julie C么t茅 will be re-appointed as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Professor C么t茅 has served as Chair of the Department since 2016 and will be serving her second three-year term, effective June 1, 2019.

Dr. C么t茅 received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Physiology Department with the Universit茅 de Montr茅al, and her Master's in Science with the University of Wisconsin's Kinesiology Department.

When a young athlete suddenly dies of a heart attack, chances are high that they suffer from familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Itis the most common genetic heart disease in the US and affects an estimated 1 in 500 people around the world. A protein called myosin acts as the molecular motor which makes the muscles in the heart contract. Researchers had suspected for some time that the R403Q mutation in some of the myosin genes is among those that play a role in causing HCM. But experiments using mice models failed to show that this was indeed the case.
