Scholars weigh in on National Security Strategy
Published: 12 December 2017
In the next few days, the Trump administration will likely release its first National Security Strategy (NSS). In the lead-up to publication, many are turning to academic perspectives, such as those put forward by Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg, to evaluate its viability.
Citing Professor Mintzberg’s conception of “emergent strategy”, many maintain that the NSS will likely fail to provide an effective long-term strategic design, as it does not incorporate flexibility and learning from short-term improvisations.
