Biography: 

Melvin D. Schloss graduated from Medical School at the University of B.C. in 1966. After 2 years of General Practice in New Westminster, B.C. Entered Residency Program at McGill (OTL) and graduated in 1973. He completed his Residency in Otolaryngology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in 1973.

Dr. Schloss spent one year as a Fellow in Neurotology with Professor Michel Portmann at the University of Bordeaux, France in 1973-1974. He was appointed Director of Pediatric Otolaryngology Montreal Children’s Hospital in 1976. He was the President of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology from 1989 to 1990.

He was Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at McGill University from 1989-2002. He has held the rank of Professor of Otolaryngology since 1990. He was Associate Dean of CME in the Faculty of Medicine from 2000-2002. He completed his thesis for membership in the American Trilogical Society in 1992. He received the Prix d’Excellence from The Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education for his participation in the McGill Mini-Med program.

Dr. Schloss is a member of McGill Senate 2012, and a member of Board of the Society of Middle Ear Disease 2012

Dr. Schloss is a pioneer and a leader in pediatric otolaryngology having performed the first cochlear implant and BAHA surgery in Canada. In 2009, Dr Schloss was honoured by the Quebec Association of Otolaryngology as a pioneer in the field. He is considered as a role model, a mentor, and a friend by all his colleagues in the division that he served as chief for over 32 years.

98 peer-reviewed publications.  156 presentations at national and international meetings.  Completed Scholars program in Faculty of Medicine 1999.

The following honors have been awarded:
•    Melvin D. Schloss Lectureship (Montreal Children’s Hospital),
•    Prix d’excellence from the Canadian Council for the advancement of Education,
•    Pioneer in Quebec Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Cancer, Lifetime Achievement Award Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Married to Barbara Schloss. 2 Daughters (Jacqueline and Jennifer).
