Abstract

In both clinical medicine and public health, we must choose between competing therapeutic or preventive interventions, in the face of considerable uncertainty. Decision analysis is a technique that can help inform such choices. I will review some key concepts of decision analysis modeling, including advantages and limitations, and share some applications from previous and ongoing research.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe and define several key concepts of decision analysis;
  • Cite and understand examples of its application to clinical and public health decision making;
  • Identify major advantages and limitations of this methodology.
