Construction Start: Technical Services Building, Macdonald Campus

McGill University has mandated Construction Sélection SRJ Inc to carry out the following project:ÌýTechnical Services Building, Macdonald Campus / 17-124 - Deferred Maintenance.

The project consist of upgrading the Welding Lab exhaust system and new teaching laboratory, as well as deferred maintenance repairs, including fire protection compliance, code compliance, mezzanine work, repairs to the envelope, installing a new ventilation unit, electrical work and civil work.

Work schedule:ÌýMonday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scope of work:Ìý

Upgrade of Welding Lab exhaust system, including:

  • New compensation unit for the ventilation exhaust system.
  • Roof work to accommodate equipment

New teaching laboratory, including:

  • New ventilation system with cooling.
  • Replacement of lighting, power outlets, audiovisualÌýconduits and electrical work related to ventilation.
  • New audiovisual system and related works.
  • New flooring and wall surfaces

Deferred maintenance repairs, including:

  • Fire protection compliance with new sprinkler system.
  • Replacement of fume hood and eyewash stations.
  • Repairs to the envelope, including the masonry, doors and windows.
  • Code compliance of emergency exits, mezzanine work and new exterior staircase.
  • Repairs to sanitary fixtures, vinyl and ceramic tiles, suspended ceilings.
  • New ventilation unit.
  • Civil work with the modification of the water entry, dismantling of the septic tank and disposal field, new sewage pipe, and rebuilding of demolished asphalt road.

Impact:ÌýThe building will remain accessible in part during construction as the work will be carried out in four phases. Some noise and vibration, dust, and possible water and electrical shutdowns that will be coordinated with the building users.
