Carole Epstein Fellowship in Health

Established in 2019 by the generosity of Carole Epstein, a woman of grace, energy and self-reliance. She passed away in 2004 from ovarian cancer, leaving a legacy which benefits lives through the best care and the most promising research. This fellowship supports graduate students in the School of Medicine or the School of Biomedical Sciences who have demonstrated academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. The recipient should have demonstrated the potential to emerge as a leader in their respective field.

Eligibility Awarded for a one year term by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences on the basis of academic merit to one outstanding graduate student conducting health research within the Faculty.
Value Varies. May be renewed up to twice (maximum three years funding) based on merit.

David G. Guthrie Fellowships in Medicine

Established in 2008 by David G. Guthrie, B.Sc. 1943, M.D.,C.M. 1944. Dr. Guthrie, a radiologist, wishes to acknowledge the education and opportunities provided to him by McGill and wishes to help future generations of medical students with their studies and medical ambitions.

Eligibility Awarded by McGill University Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to Ph.D. students in the Faculty of Medicine. Preference will be given to Canadian students.

David McCutcheon Fellowships in Paediatrics

Established in 2008 by David McCutcheon, BEng 1961.

Eligibility Awarded by the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, in the Faculty of Medicine, on the basis of academic merit to outstanding postgraduate trainees who are pursuing research or training in the Department of Pediatrics in any discipline. Preference will be given to candidates in pediatric palliative care.

Dr. Edward Archibald Fellowship in Surgery

Established in 2023 on behalf of Griselda Archibald Christmas in honour of her father, Dr. Edward Archibald, a world-renowned surgeon and former leader within the McGill Department of Surgery.

Dr. Geeta Ishwar Gupta Resilience Prize

Established by Dr. Geeta Ishwar Gupta. Having come from London, England, to Montreal on a cold, snowy evening in early January 1976, Dr. Gupta quickly learned the true meaning of “resilience.” Adjusting to a multicultural society, learning French and receiving a certificate, communicating with patients who hail from different cultures and countries and speak different languages, encountering issues of domestic violence and youth protection, all while setting up a new life in Montreal – all this and more contributed to her experience and definition of resilience. 
For one or more graduating medical residents in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Eligibility Awarded by the Department of Family Medicine to residents who, in the face of systemic barriers to education, have demonstrated resilience, academic excellence, and a continued commitment to their studies.

Dr. Jarrod Daniel Family Foundation Fellowship in Global Health

Established in 2023 by Dr. Jarrod Ryan Daniel, BSc 1999, and the Daniel Family Foundation, to support graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Eligibility Awarded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences upon the recommendation of the School of Population and Global Health on the basis of leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and academic merit to one or more Master’s students entering or enrolled in the School of Population and Global Health. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae with a letter outlining their leadership and entrepreneurial experience and their expectations with respect to global health.

Dr. Robert S. Remis Fellowship in Epidemiology

Established in 2019 through the generous bequest of Dr. Robert S. Remis, infectious disease epidemiologist, BSc 1967, MDCM 1972, in support of one outstanding graduate student pursuing research in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health.

Eligibility Awarded annually on the basis of academic merit by the Faculty of Medicine upon recommendation of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health. Preference will be given to students in the field of infectious disease epidemiology. The fellowship may be held for up to three years or the duration of the student's study program, whichever is shorter.

Goodwin Prize in Forensic Medicine

Established in 1953.

Eligibility Awarded annually to a third year student enrolled in the "Formation of the Healer and Professional" course who writes the best essay in response to topics given for the end of the year assignment. The students will be instructed that the essay should represent the integration of concepts taught in the course along with their own personal experiences and observations in the clinical practice during clerkship.

Peter and Louise Szana Fellowships in Medicine

Established in 2023 through a bequest from Louise Dumaine Szana in memory of her husband Peter Szana. Mr. and Mrs. Szana believed deeply in the importance of supporting medical research and the fellowships are a permanent testament to their interest and will provide for many generations of important support to outstanding students and medical research in the quest for scientific knowledge and medical breakthroughs.
