Under the leadership of Dr Natalie Dayan, Director of the MUHC GIM Obstetrical Medicine, the clinical activities of this service are expanding. There is a dedicated inpatient service providing consultative assessments of patients with medical disorders of pregnancy. General internists, Drs Isabelle Malhamé, Stéphanie Cérat, Natasha Nathoo, Natalie Dayan and nephrologist Dr Tiina Podymow participate on the Inpatient Service. In the outpatient setting, the abovementioned physicians have and extensive presence, providing care and guidance to patients in preconception, during pregnancy and in postpartum.
There antenatal clinics occurring thrice weekly are closely linked with the high-risk obstetrics and gynaecology division at the MUHC, and accept referrals from obstetrician-gynaecologists throughout the Montreal region, as well as family physicians and fertility specialists. In addition, this service includes a specialized postpartum clinic, the Maternal Cardiovascular Health clinic (MATCH), which is dedicated to cardiovascular risk assessment and reduction for women who have had medical complications of pregnancy. This postpartum clinic is regionally innovative, and is part of the growing Canadian Postpartum Clinical Research Network.
Subspecialty GIM residents are training in all of these environments on dedicated rotations in medical obstetrics. For more information, please follow this link /mom/.
