Soprano Elisabeth St-Gelais (BMus'21, MMus'23) and mezzo-soprano Mala Weissberg (MMus'24) have been selected to participate in the Voice Competition at the 78th Concours de Genè in September and October 2024.
Thirty-two contestants from twelve different countries were selected. Secretary General Didier Schnorhk stated, “the standard of applicants this year was exceptionally high, and we know that this will be an outstanding year for the Competition.”
Elisabeth is an Innu of the Pessamit community and the 2021-2022 recipient of the Wirth Vocal Prize. Mala is from Israel and has just completed a master's degree at Schulich.
We wish both singers great success at the upcoming competition and ’t wait to watch them online.
Another Schulich alumna making her mark is mezzo-soprano, Jingjing Xu (Ѳѳܲ’23), who recently won the 2024 Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition that was held from June 3 to 12 in Helsinki, Finland. The prestigious win also comes with a prize of €50,000.
During her time at Schulich, Jinjing made her operatic debut in Handel’s Orlando with Opera McGill and was the 2022-2023 recipient of the Wirth Vocal Prize.
