Calgary Herald - Just the beginning for natural leader
At Dr. E.P. Scarlett, the first student that comes to mind when we think of a Class Act is Sam Gregory. When we think about determination, perseverance, thoughtfulness and global thinking, once again Sam is the person who models these qualities. Sam has earned honours with distinction all three years.
Through his love of learning, he will graduate at the end of this year with a remarkable 171 credits. A man who rarely accepts "no" for an answer, Sam takes on important issues as crusader and leader. As an example, Sam became the student leader for SOFA -Save Our Fine Arts. Sam created Scarlett for Global Aid, a student-run organization which raises money for development projects.
His leadership is also noted through our journalism program where he is one of our newspaper's editors. He is musically gifted and in a competition in New York, Sam was awarded an outstanding performer award. He travelled to Ottawa for the Forum for Young Canadians and was the student of the year in Grade 11 and has been nominated this year, too…
In recognition of his many achievements, Sam received the prestigious Loran Award Canadian merit scholarship worth $75,000 over four years and will be studying at McGill University next year. "Mark my words; this is just the beginning of what this natural-born leader has accomplished. Stay tuned for changes to the world, " said principal Lawanda Neilsen.
