Welcome & Overview

The Master of Science (Applied): Nursing (MSc(A)) is a unique program in Canada, offered at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) at McGill University since 1974.

The MSc(A): Nursing allows individuals with a non-nursing background to become a master’s degree-prepared nurse in three years.

Overview

Applicants with a bachelor's degree are considered for admission to a Qualifying Year of study in preparation for entry to the MSc(A): Nursing program. Individuals who have begun preparation in another nursing program or who have completed a nursing preparation are not normally eligible.

Students first have an intensive 10-month qualifying year of study. Clinical courses include nursing patients and families in hospitals and rehabilitation settings. Following successful completion of the qualifying year, students must apply to continue their studies in either the MSc(A) Nursing Direct Entry to Advanced Practice Nursing or the MSc(A)-N- Global Health Direct Entry (see Global Health Concentration for more information).
