Online seminar: Tanycytes as a central node in hypothalamic networks regulating energy balance

Friday, February 25, 2022 11:00to12:00

In multicellular organisms, cells can sense systemic cues of the immediate environment to maintain energetic and cellular stability. However, the brain is often considered the conductor orchestrating all these metabolic regulations by regulating the fraction of energy that enters (i.e., food intake) and leaves (i.e., energy expenditure) the organism. Within neural networks controlling energy balance, peculiar glial cells called tanycytes are recognized as multifunctional players. Their strategic position and heterogeneous properties convey them diverse physiological functions ranging from blood/brain traffic controllers and neuronal modulators, making them a central node for the control of energy balance.

This seminar will be given online via Zoom. Details in attached poster.
