Quantitative Physiology

Mathematical analyses of physiological systems are directed at understanding how the dynamics of physiological systems are modified as parameters describing the system are varied. We use deterministic and stochastic models to analyze complex dynamics both in experiments and the clinic in a variety of contexts including gene expression in bacteria, cell signalling, control of blood cell production and cardiac arrhythmias.

Computational Physiology is an interdisciplinary approach that draws on different disciplines (physics, mathematics, computer science and electrical engineering) to understand complex biological systems. Research in our Department is directed at understanding physiological systems at the molecular, neuronal, and network and behavioral levels.
