Application and Admission Requirements

Applicants must verify all deadlines and documentation requirements well in advance on the appropriate McGill departmental website. Applications for the MSc and PhD in Surgical and Interventional Sciences are to be submitted through McGill's graduate admissions system, Slate. Those interested in pursuing graduate programs (other than the Surgical Innovation Certificate and Diploma programs) must contact a prospective supervisor to discuss potential thesis material and a research project.ÌýAll application materials and supporting documents must be uploaded directly to the McGill admissions processing system.Ìý

All applicants to the MSc or PhDÌýin Surgical and Interventional Sciences program must submit the following:

1. Online Application for Admission form

2. Application fee: $110.29 for each form you submit (you may indicate two programs on each form), payable by credit card when you submit the form.

3. Transcripts: Your complete record of study from each university-level institution you have attended to date (including McGill University). Uploaded copies will be considered as unofficial, and will be considered for the application; two final, official copies will be required once you are offered admission, and must be sent directly from your university to McGill Admissions. The departmental minimum for MSc applications is a GPA of 3.2/4.0 in the last two years of study; for the PhD program, a minimum CGPA of 3.5/4.0 is required.

4. Two Reference Letters: Candidates are encouraged to request recommendations from academic or other professional employers who can evaluate their potential for graduate study and/or speak knowledgeably about their accomplishments. RefereesÌýmust not be the chosen supervisors or co-supervisors. All letters of reference MUST be uploaded on letterhead from the institution with which the referee is associated. McGill University will reject any letters which are not on letterhead.ÌýMcGill will contact these referees and invite them to upload references on your behalf. Please note that although you can list public domain addresses such as Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo Mail on the application form, references uploaded from these addresses are discouraged, and students are encouraged to obtain references with a email atÌýa valid institutional or corporate e-mail address.

5. Confirmation of Supervisor:ÌýA letter of intent, provided on letterhead from the student's research director must be included, stating that the supervisor is willing to accept you as a student and will provide space, equipment and possibly financial support. If you have a co-supervisor, this person will have to submit a confirmation letter as well.

6. Research project proposal:ÌýA 1-2 page description of your proposed thesis research project (prepared by the student and/or the prospective research director) must be included.

7. Curriculum Vitae: In English, providing an overview of your experience and other qualifications, including employment, academic credentials, publications, contributions, and significant achievements.

8. Letter of Understanding: A signed copy of the Letter of UnderstandingÌý(PDF) between the student and the supervisorÌýmust be completed, signed and uploaded with their application.Ìý

9. TOEFL/IELTS, GRE results (if applicable): When registering for the test, ensure that you request that results be sent directly to McGill University. McGill will then receive the results electronically, directly from the testing agency. For more information regarding the TOEFL exam and who requires it, please see the following website.

Additional Requirements for the Surgical and Interventional SciencesÌýConcentration in Surgical Education and Innovation:

10.ÌýLetter of Intent:ÌýA letter of intent from the student describing their reasons for pursuing the concentration of their choice, what their qualifications are, and why they should be chosen to be accepted.

11.ÌýInterview session:ÌýStudents applying to the concentrations in Education or Innovation may be requested to attend an interview session either in person, by phone or via Skype.Ìý
