Dr. Marcele Fonseca Falcao
Associate Professor
MD, PhD
Currently supervising students
Current interests are developing cutting edge, engineering driven ophthalmic devices to assess, diagnose and manage eye movements, eye deviations and lid movements. I have successfully supervised 15+ Engineering graduate students in the recent past (Sherbrooke)Â
- Pediatric ophthalmic surgeryÂ
- Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Eye SurgeryÂ
- Ophthalmic Innovation, automation and artificial intelligenceÂ
- Amblyopia and visual developmentÂ
- Surgical EducationÂ
Following her postdoctoral training in ophthalmology, Dr. Falcao received one year of training in oculoplastic and aesthetic surgery at the University of Sao Paulo, under the direction of Professor Augusto Cruz, as well as a 2nd year of training leading to the award of a PhD in oculoplastics following the publication of her thesis in "Mouvement saccadique palpébral "Â
Dr. Falcao also completed two more years of fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Sainte-Justine Hospital, Université de Montréal. Currently, Dr. Falcao holds an assistant professor position in ophthalmology at McGill University and a clinical teaching position in ophthalmology at Université de Sherbrooke. Dr. Falcao has also published about ten articles in the field of oculoplastics and pediatric ophthalmology, she regularly presents, is the inventor of a revolutionary pediatric ophthalmology device and she actively continues her research in these two fields. Dr. Falcao has been honored with several academic awards including an Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award from Université de Sherbrooke in 2017 and several 1st place awards for her research work from 1999 to date.Â
