Animal Production


Overview

The Specialization in Animal Production will teach you how to improve livestock production efficiency at national and international levels. 

You will learn about animal nutrition, reproduction and breeding in a context that respects environmental concerns and animal-welfare issues. In upper-level courses, youÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½appl be introduced to the latest advancements in various animal industries (dairy, beef, swine, sheep and poultry). 

These courses are complemented by enriching learning activities. YouÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½appl attend instruction at the Macdonald Campus Farm and field trips to many production facilities throughout Québec. When taken in conjunction with the Major in Agro-Environmental Sciences and the Specialization in Professional Agrology, it fulfils the eligibility requirements of the Ordre des agronomes du Québec (OAQ). 

This specialization must be taken along with a major in the BSc(AgEnvSc). The recommended major is Agro-Environmental Sciences.


Careers

Graduates from the Animal Production program may wish to pursue careers in federal and provincial government agricultural agencies (e.g., Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, MAPAQ) or private industry (e.g., feed companies, breeding and genetic companies). You may also choose to pursue graduate studies in the field.

Throughout this program, there are hands-on sessions with animals on our teaching and research farm, including cows, sheep and poultry. You will also go on field trips to learn more about animals and veterinary medicine. 

You can also expand your skills and enrich your studies by pursuing research opportunities.
