Music Education


Overview

This program offers you the opportunity to obtain both a Bachelor of Music (Major in Music Education) and a Bachelor of Education (Elementary and Secondary) at the same time. You can engage with your passion for music while opening doors to future career paths in performing arts-based mentorship.

The concurrent program combines academic studies in music with professional studies in education and includes hands-on student-teaching field experiences. You will graduate with both the theoretical and practical experience necessary to thrive in your future career.

Students with a Bachelor of Music degree may apply directly to the B.Ed in Music program.

An undergraduate degree in Music Education can lead you to a wide range of career options. Many graduates choose to work in occupations that focus on music education, community arts and culture, performance, and recreation. Employment is available in many types of establishments. You can work in public schools, private educational institutions, recreational centres, and music organizations.

Student experience

Students in this program are supported by course instructors, advisors, and administrators in the Schulich School of Music, the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), and the Office of Internships and Student Affairs (ISA). In addition to being a part of two faculties that foster a sense of mentorship, students also can benefit from the resources and events organized by the Music Education Undergraduate Students’ Association (MEdUSA) and the Education Undergraduate Student Society (EdUS).
