Overview
One of the most significant challenges in the biomedical sciences today is understanding diseases and developing new therapies to treat them. Pharmacology is a multidisciplinary science that deals with all aspects of drugs and their interactions with living organisms. It has its own set of principles and methods to study different drugs' mode of action while also applying techniques and approaches from disciplines like biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and cell and molecular biology.Â
The BSc. Pharmacology Major provides you with a solid background in pharmacology and allied disciplines, which is excellent preparation for your graduate studies in biomedical or environmental sciences, or professional programs like medicine, dentistry, nursing, and veterinary sciences.Â
Careers
This program incorporates extensive studies in pharmacology with a foundation in other areas within the biomedical sciences, preparing you for diverse employment opportunities or for entry into graduate or professional training programs.Â
Note that a degree in Pharmacology will not lead to a license to become a practicing pharmacist. The Pharmacology Program (what we offer here at McGill) and a Pharmacy Program (not offered at McGill) are two very distinct programs that lead to different careers.Â
With a Pharmacology degree, you could become a:Â
- Clinical research associate
- Healthcare scientist
- Pharmacologist
- Research technician/officer
- Pharmaceutical chemist
- Laboratory manager
