Every year, the Computational and Data Systems Initiative (CDSI) offers a series of workshops and intensive summer camps on topics related to programming languages, data science, advanced statistical methods, computer systems, machine learning and more. They are offered for free to the entire McGill community across all faculties and departments. Each workshop is taught by an experienced instructor and is helped by Learning Assistants, who are responsible for answering participant questions on Zoom and in class, helping participants with workshop exercises, and overall assistance to the instructor. Learning Assistants are compensated with $30/hour, each workshop being 2 to 3 hours long.

Unless specified otherwise, workshops are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 10:00 AM to 12 PM at , room 1104 (11th floor). Learning Assistants are required to attend the the workshops in-person and bring their own laptops to answer questions on Zoom.

Interested candidates must be active McGill Undergraduate students and have advanced knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas, gained through coursework or projects:

  • Data Science in Python, R, and PostGreSQL
  • Computer Systems, such as Linux and Cluster Computing
  • Machine Learning & Natural Language Processing
  • Advanced Statistics, such as Causal Inference and Structural Equation Modeling

The ideal candidate must also have strong communication skills and sense of responsibility, making sure that they maintain effective communication with the CDSI staff, instructors, and workshop participants. They must respond promptly to emails from the CDSI staff and be punctual for workshops.
