ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app

The D2R Training Awards funding program is designed to cultivate the next generation of researchers. This program supports the multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral, and multi-national development of graduate students (M. Sc., Ph. D., PDF) by supporting training, opportunities for internships with industry partners and facilitating rotations or travel between various research labs. Competitions for training awards are implemented as needed.

Training awards are also linked to the following funding programs: Foundational Projects, Research in Motion, and Translational Impact Research). For more information about the training awards associated with these funding programs, visit the funded projects page.

Internship program in biomanufacturing

The master’s in engineering with a concentration in Biomanufacturing graduate program, launched in Fall 2022 within McGill University’s Biological and Biomedical Engineering Interfaculty (including Medicine and Health Sciences, and Engineering faculties) was developed in alignment with the Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Canadian strategy. A notable highlight of this program are the internships in Biomanufacturing in an industry setting, which provides practical training over two semesters (8 months).

Supported by the D2R Training Award, these internships allow students to gain deeper knowledge and technological skills in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing at institutional and industry settings. The internships cover crucial areas including plasmid DNA and bacterial fermentation to support manufacturing of template DNA, mRNA manufacturing technology platforms, including upstream and downstream processing, analytical technology and data sciences, formulation, and delivery of RNA-based biologics.

Principal investigator: Amine Kamen (McGill University)
Award category: Industry training; Internships
Supported level of study: Masters
Partners: Biovectra and Moderna
Relevant D2R Axes: RNA Therapeutics (Axis 2), Bioprocessing, Biomanufacturing, and Nanotechnology (Axis 3)
