Ioannis (Jiannis) Ragoussis, PhD is Professor in Human Genetics, at the Department of Human Genetics and Department of Bioengineering, the Head of Genome Sciences at the McGill Genome Center, Associate Director of CGEn-Montreal (Canada’s National Platform for Genome Sequencing and Analysis), Director of the Advanced Genomic Technologies Laboratory and Lead of the High-Throughput Biology Division of the Victor Dahadaleh Institute of Genomic Medicine at McGill.
He has a long-standing career in genomics, from introducing new genomics technologies for gene identification and mapping at King’s College London to next generation sequencing at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (Oxford,UK), where he worked with Nobel Laureate Peter Ratcliffe on hypoxia genomics. At McGill, he established genomic facilities at the McGill Genome Centre, introduced single cell genomics, long read sequencing and Hi-C approaches for de novo genome sequencing. He leads virus genomics in CIHR CoVaRR-Net and is a member of several large-scale Genome Canada projects, including the Canada Biogenome Project.
