Furkan Işın, Ph.D. (Year 4)
I am a second-year PhD student at the McGill Institute of Islamic Studies. I received my MA degree at Sabanci University, Istanbul, in 2020. My thesis has focused on a Persian chronicle written for Süleyman I (r. 1520-1566). I worked as a research fellow at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna in 2021. My research interests include the history of the Ottoman Empire in early modern era, with a particular emphasis on Kemalpaşazade (d. 1534), a scholar-bureaucrat. I examine the creation of Ottoman imperial ideology and link intellectual currents with political history.
