What is Pre-Departure Orientation?

Pre-Departure Orientation is a mandatory course offered online via MyCourses that covers practical information related to pre-departure preparations, your time abroad, and your return to McGill.Ìý

Who is Pre-Departure For?

This orientation remains mandatory for all students* who are traveling outside of Canada for University sanctioned activities, including exchanges, internships, co-ops, independent study-away, field study semesters, performances, athletic competitions, courses, and research.

* This excludes Nursing, Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MDCM) students: Online pre-departure training for Nursing, PT, OT, and MDCM students is coordinated by McGill Global Health Programs (GPH) office in collaboration with the Schools of Nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and the Faculty of Medicine. When is Pre-Departure Orientation Offered?

IMPORTANT NOTE for Exchange Students Only: Please do not register using the online form. Students will be automatically registered to Pre-Departure the first week of March for Fall nominated exchanges and the first week of October for Winter nominated exchanges.Ìý

Pre-Departure Orientation is offered on a monthly basis. We recommend completing Pre-Departure Orientation 3-6 months prior to departure for your international activity. StudentsÌýwill be granted access to the online course within approximatelyÌý2 working days of their registration *excluding statutory holidays.ÌýThey will receive aÌýnotification e-mail from 'myCourses' once they are registered.Ìý

Obtaining your Certificate of Completion

Upon completing Pre-Departure Orientation, students must obtain 100% passing rate on the Final Quiz and learning checkpointsÌýto receive the certificate of completion. A confirmation email will be automatically sent to all students upon receiving the award. The Certificate of CompletionÌýmay be retrievedÌýin MyCourses, by selecting "Awards" and then "My Awards".ÌýPlease be advised that you can onlyÌýdownload a copy of the Certificate of Completion for your records while you are enrolled in the course. At the end of the course access period,Ìýyou will be unenrolled from the course and no longer able to download the certificate. The certificate is valid for 1 calendar year from the date of issue.
