The Business of Food (In)Security: Considerations for the Transformation of Food Systems

An online panel co-sponsored by the Desautels EDI Team and the Laidley Centre for Business Ethics

This event will encourage attendees to consider the issue of food insecurity within Northern Communities, with an emphasis on the Quebec region, and how the business community can play a role in transforming food systems. Participants will learn about the intersections of socioeconomic inequity, food prices and non-traditional means of food sourcing.

This event will feature:

Cameron McRae, a doctoral student at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. Cameron holds a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral (CGS-D) for his research on how marketing practices and digital tools can be designed and implemented to support equitable, healthy, and sustainable consumer decisions. Cameron also teaches a course on ‘health and society’ to Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students at the First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) in Tyendinaga, Ontario. FNTI is an Indigenous-owned and governed institution that brings together students from communities across all of Ontario for Indigenous-based education programs, such as the BSW program that is offered in partnership with Ryerson University. Cameron is a member of the Huron-Wendat First Nation in the region of Wendake, Québec.

Julie Katsuak Lussier Julie Katsuak Lussier is a third year Desautels student at McGill University concentrating in accounting. She is from Salluit, Nunavik, and is based in Montréal, Québec. Her academic training includes diplomas in languages, and business administration at John Abbott College and in sociology at Concordia University. To date, she has worked at the regional government level, in NPOs, as well as in retail, before having enrolled into the accountancy program at McGill with the aim of creating projects and policies related to economic development in northern regions. She is also a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces in which she earned her basic military qualifications.
