MBA Toronto Trip 2023

After a three-year hiatus, the McGill Desautels Career Management team successfully organized an in-person MBA Toronto tour on March 2 and 3, 2023, bringing together 57 MBA students, alumni, and employers for professional development and networking opportunities. Activities included an employer networking event, an MBA refresher session, an alumni reunion reception, and a reinvented speed mock interviewing event.

McGill students earn podium finish in leading global case competition

McGill Desautels continues its hot streak in the case competition arena with another podium result, placing 2nd overall in the prestigious 2023 Copenhagen Business School Invitational Case competition. 12 schools flew to Copenhagen and were challenged to help Vestas, a leading company in wind power plant solutions, leverage its position to create new businesses in hydrogen technologies and develop a strategy for 2030.

Congratulations to the McGill Desautels accounting team for their first-place win at the I.C.B.C. case competition. The team consisting of Thomas Wakeham and Francois Kik was coached and assisted by Julia Scott and Peg Brunelle.

For Stephanie Gutnik (BA’11), many of the most memorable experiences and important contacts have come from situations where she put herself out there. Now Yahoo’s Global Head of DOOH (Digital Out of Home Advertising), Gutnik encourages McGill students to get involved in their workplace beyond their actual job description.

Aïcha Traoré (MMF’20), now a Senior Market Risk Analyst at National Bank of Canada, credits the McGill Master of Management in Finance (MMF) program for allowing her to master finance fundamentals and hone critical skills. Her passion for finance was influenced by her family and she plans to return to Côte d’Ivoire to contribute to its economic development.

Language skills are key to success for international MBA students

If international MBA students want to gain a competitive edge, they should learn the local language, says Marie José Beaudin, Executive Director of Career Services at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Though most students can get by with English only, bilingualism is a requirement for client-facing roles and an asset across industries.
