The Summer term runs from May to August, and offers a wide array of credit courses from McGill degree programs. Most are month-long courses with lectures every day, and are usually accepted for transfer credit by other universities. The 2025 Summer Studies Calendar contains all the information needed to take summer courses. For detailed information concerning McGill University programs and degree requirements, please consult the Summer Studies Website or contact the Summer Studies Office at (514) 398-5212.
All University and Faculty regulations apply to students taking summer courses. Students taking Summer Studies courses to complete their graduation requirements will receive their degrees at Fall Convocation (normally held in November). Students may enroll in no more than 12 credits during the summer, either at McGill or at any other universities, except by special permission of their Associate Dean. Students registering under a Quebec Inter-University Transfer Agreement (IUT) are limited to 6 credits.
Fees and charges
McGill reserves the right to change the fee schedule at any time without notice. Fee statements will be issued in the month following registration, and students are responsible for payment as per the due date indicated on their fee statement.
Present or former students who have outstanding fees from a previous term, or who owe fines, will not be permitted to register.
Payment of fees
Electronic billing is the official means of delivering fee statements to all McGill University students. All charges to the student's account, including tuition, fees, and other miscellaneous charges, are on your e-bill. Click here for more information about e-bills.
Payment is due by the due date indicated on your e-bill. Interest will be charged after the due date at the monthly rate of 1.24%, and will not be cancelled due to non-receipt of fee invoices. Please note that if you are continuing your studies in the fall, your registration for the next academic year will be at risk if fees and fines for summer and previous sessions are not paid.
Please see Making a payment for acceptable methods of payment.
Refunds
Full refunds of tuition fees are available in the following cases:
- If you cancel your registration prior to the start of classes;
- If you drop a course during the course change period [first four scheduled classes which include lectures and laboratories (please check course descriptions of intensive courses where deadlines may be non-standard)].
For more information on how to request a refund, please refer to the Requesting a refund page. McGill students can choose to leave the refund as a credit in their fee account, to be applied to future terms.
If the course is cancelled due to insufficient enrolment, fees are refunded in full. There are no refunds under any circumstance if you withdraw from a course after the fourth scheduled lecture.
