All our services are free to full-time and part-time students at the downtown and Macdonald campusÌýwho have paid their Student Services fee and are covered by insurance.Ìý

Eligibility

To be eligible for the services of the Student Wellness Hub you must:

  1. Be physically located in the province of Quebec at the time of theÌýappointment. This is due to restrictions imposed by various professional orders who license our clinicians to practice in certain jurisdictions.
  2. Consent to having an appointment.Ìý

If you are an undergraduate medical student, resident or fellow, you may also contact theÌýOffice of Medical Learner AffairsÌýfor counselling services. If you are a Health Professional Learner, please contact theÌýWELL OfficeÌýfor access to counselling services, support groups and workshops.

*If you don’t see any availability for an Access Advisor appointment, please check back again soon. Access Advisor appointments open 48 hours in advance so new availabilities open up every day.

*Lab booking require a lab requisition from a Hub clinician.Ìý

*Appointments with psychiatrists require a referral from a physician.Ìý

Cancel an Appointment

You can call the clinic at 514-398-6017 to cancel an appointment.

Insurance

Please always have your McGill ID and up-to-date insurance cardÌýreadily available. The Hub accepts provincial, Medavie Blue Cross, CIDA, CIGNA, COWAN and Great-West Life insurance.

Students have access to the following types of health insurance coverage, depending on their status:

McGill International Health Insurance Plan

The McGill International Health Insurance (IHI) Plan is mandatory for all international students. You also have access to supplemental health and dental insurance through your student society.

Make a Claim:

Whenever you go to a clinic outside McGill, you will most likely need to pay for any medical services received, and then to your insurance provider(s).

What's Covered?

Basic health benefits are 100% covered* (subject to the maximum specified in the current Provincial Schedule of Fees of the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). This includes hospitalization, physician fees, diagnostic tests, maternity, dental care (emergency only), and vision care (eye examÌýonly).

Supplemental health benefits are 80% covered* (subject to the maximum specified for each benefit by the plan). This includes prescription drugs, vaccinations, registered dietitians, ambulance, physiotherapy, and others. If you are referred to an off-campus clinic for testing or radiology, please consult with directly or the ISS office to confirm coverage.Ìý

Travel benefits cover emergency hospital and medical expenses for leisure travel (not to your country of origin) up to 4 weeks* (subject to limitations – consult your plan details carefully prior to travel). Consult travel benefit and the plan booklet for up to date information on the International Student Services Website.Ìý

Provincial Health Insurance Plans (Canadian Residents)

These plans are available to Residents of Canada. Your provincial health care plan provides coverage for primary health care and care in hospitals.

Students studying outside of their province of residency must inform their provincial health agency in order to maintain their coverage. Contact your provincial health agency:

Supplemental Health Insurance Plans (SSMU, PGSS, MCSS)

Supplemental health and dental plans help you pay for services that are not covered by the McGill IHI Plan. International students are automatically enrolled in the SSMU, PGSS, or MCSS dental plans.ÌýCanadian residents are automatically enrolled in the SSMU, PGSS, or MCSS health and dental plans if registered in a Fall semester (details available on the Student Accounts website).

Students may choose to opt-in or opt-out of these plans during the Change-of-Coverage and Opt-Out Period (visit for instructions).

What's Covered?

Supplemental Health Plan: Prescription drugs, contraception, physiotherapy, psychology, ambulance, laboratory tests, vision care (eye exams and eyeglasses) and more. Coverage is generallyÌýup to 80% and subject to limitations.

Dental Plan:Ìý Preventive services (including cleanings), basic services (including periodontics), and more. Coverage is generally up to 70% and subject to limitations.

Coverage varies depending on your plan (SSMU, PGSS or MCSS).Ìý Visit the Student Care Network at,Ìý for detailed information. Student Care Network provides low-cost access to psychologists (under $25 for SSMU and MCSS), and other health and wellness services.

Private Health Insurance

Consult your insurance provider for information on your plan.Ìý If you're looking to buy private insurance, many banks and private insurance companies offer health and travel insurance.Ìý Be sure to compare costs and coverage limitations when choosing a plan.

International students covered by private health insurance are not exempt from the McGill International Health Insurance plan.

Insurance Tips:

  1. Familiarize yourself with your insurance plan(s)Ìýbefore youÌýaccess healthcare or make a claim.
  2. Make sure your insurance card is valid and up to date.
  3. If you have more than one insurance plan, you can combine them to get more coverage when submitting a claim. Check with each provider to see where you should submit the claim first.

Fees

There are associated fees at the Hub, including for cancelling an appointment without adequate notice, as well as requests for documentation and other administrative tasks. Note that if your appointment is on Monday, you must cancel on Friday to avoid paying the fee.

All information and forms also applyÌýto the Macdonald campus clinic.

All information shared with and obtained by McGill cliniciansÌýis strictlyÌýconfidential. It can only be released to anyone (including family) if:Ìý

  • You give written permissionÌý
  • A minor is being abusedÌý
  • You/someone else is in immediate dangerÌý
  • Or otherwise when required by law
