In Bermuda, arts and culture can be an enabler for progress

Desautels alumna Lauren Merkel (MBA'13) makes the case that Bermuda’s best resource for moving the island nation forward is its arts and cultural capital. Ms. Merkel is a senior consultant at Toronto-based Lord Cultural Resources, which specializes in the cultural heritage sector.

According to Ms. Merkel, the soft power represented by the arts can be brought to bear on many issues, and points to her firm’s successful 2012 cultural plan to increase Chicago’s profile as a centre of creativity. Bermuda’s unique culture can be harnessed to help the community develop similarly.
