Dear Members of the Research Community in the Faculty of Medicine,
Today, Wednesday June 10, 2020, many students and academics worldwide will take part in as part of a global commitment to recognizing and challenging racism, notably anti-Black racism, within universities, and scientific research. The goal of this movement is to raise awareness of the biases in science and universities with respect to anti-Black racism and systemic discrimination. The Provost’s Office has asked us for flexibility to accommodate all students and colleagues who wish to participate in these initiatives by refraining from their regular academic activities today.
The Office the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, and the Social Accountability and Community Engagement Office in the Faculty of Medicine wholeheartedly support these activities as important expressions of solidarity with anti-black racism and the broader concerns of science in service to the creation of more just and equitable societies. We have much work to do within our graduate programs and the Faculty and we are committed to tangible action in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact either of us at the e-mail coordinates below.
Sincerely,
Ìý
